Women's Leadership Initiative

Women make up more than 60% of the higher education workforce yet hold only 30% of its executive leadership positions. The WVU Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) is dedicated to improving those numbers by helping women thrive to achieve their full potential. Your support on WVU’s annual Day of Giving will help ensure WLI can continue to address the unique needs of women leaders and provide professional training and development opportunities even in challenging times.

Effective leadership is learned and WLI helps level the playing field for women regardless of where they started out. An endowment would help ensure that WLI faculty and staff have a stable and independent source of funding for professional development opportunities, both internal and external.

What began as 28 senior administrators looking to empower female colleagues to help crack the “concrete ceiling” in higher education is today a diverse organization with approximately 400 active faculty and staff members. WLI provides a unique curriculum and professional development activities such as coaching in Clifton Strengths and Energy Leadership, as well as invaluable personal connections and networking opportunities, just to name a few.

Your generous support of WLI Women’s Leadership Initiative Fund is an investment in the women leaders who help shape WVU for generations to come; we are grateful for gifts of every size. If you are unable to make a financial donation, please consider sharing this giving opportunity with others in your network and support our women leaders and leaders to come!
