Health Sciences Research and Graduate Education

The WVU Health Sciences Center is committed to improving the health and well-being of West Virginians through Research and education.  The Office of Research and Graduate Education (ORGE) organizes, supports, and funds research and the training of PhD students across the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health in HSC.  Our researchers are leading the world in developing new interventions to treat neurological diseases, heart and vascular diseases, and cancer.  Their research enables WVU hospitals to provide the best care to West Virginians within the state.   We are also training world-class PhD researchers equipped with the knowledge and skills to address emerging health challenges.  They are the next generation leaders of medical research in West Virginia and beyond.  Your generous contribution – no matter the size – helps us continue this vital work through three Funds.  We thank you for your support.


WVU HSC Next Generation Researcher Fund (NGRF) (2W710) 

The NGRF helps develop the next generation of health researcher at WVU HSC through supporting graduate students pursuing PhD-the highest postgraduate research degree one can earn.  Your gift to the NGRF will support PhD students directly in areas including:

  • Awarding scholarships to the most outstanding students
  • Enhancing students’ training experience, including traveling to national research conferences and presenting research progresses on campus
  • Providing assistance for unanticipated hardships and/or needs

WVU HSC Iris Allsopp Fund for Research (2R424)

The Iris Allsopp Fund for Research supports groundbreaking research in the Health Science Center that improves the lives of West Virginians.  Your contribution will directly support our faculty and students’ cutting-edge studies on diseases or areas including:

  • Cancer
  • Neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease, Depression, and substance use disorders
  • Heart and Vascular Diseases
  • Infectious Diseases and Immunological Disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Fundamental understanding of disease mechanisms and disease prevention

WVU HSC Team Science for Cure (TS4C) Fund (2R448)

The TS4C Fund supports transdisciplinary collaborative research that applies/develops approaches to accelerate the pace of translating research discoveries to better health care.  Your contribution will enable and empower researchers and physicians with different expertise to converge on innovative ideas and/or cutting-edge technologies for breakthroughs in areas including:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Health
  • Innovative medical device (robotics, medical imaging, etc.) development
  • New drug development and drug repurposing
  • Innovative clinical trials
