WVU Center for Community Engagement

The WVU Center for Community Engagement is committed to empowering students, faculty and community members to collaborate and drive meaningful change across West Virginia. At the heart of this work is the P2A (Purpose2Action) program, which connects academic knowledge with community needs to create lasting impact. Serving the entire university, the Center provides every student—regardless of their major—the opportunity to engage in community experiences that tackle real-world issues. By participating in these projects, students gain valuable experience and directly contribute to the growth and sustainability of local communities.

This year, as part of our Day of Giving Challenge, we are thrilled to announce the first significant gift to the Center for Community Engagement. This milestone donation will directly support the P2A program, enabling students to engage with and serve the Braxton County community—forming lasting bonds and sparking tangible, local change.

But we can’t achieve this without your support.

The P2A program provides WVU students across all disciplines the unique opportunity to work directly with local communities on critical projects. Whether students are studying engineering, social work, forestry, business, healthcare or any other field, the P2A program offers hands-on, experiential learning that is essential for their academic growth. These projects tackle a wide range of issues—from economic development and advancing education to public health initiatives. By addressing place-based challenges, students gain experience while helping communities build resilience, capacity and sustainability for the future. The Center also collaborates with faculty across the university to create curricula that integrate service-learning into the classroom, ensuring that students from all disciplines can participate in impactful, community-driven projects.

The Center’s work is further enhanced by the VISTA program, which uses AmeriCorps VISTA members to harness higher education's transformative power, empowering a diverse generation of individuals by strengthening educational programs, promoting experiential learning and building community partnerships. These initiatives focus on improving resources and providing valuable experiences for both students and the community.

Additionally, the iServe volunteer platform connects students with community service opportunities, allowing them to easily find and participate in meaningful projects that address the needs of local communities. It streamlines the process of matching student interests and skills with community needs, promoting civic engagement, experiential learning and professional development. By centralizing volunteer opportunities, the database highlights community voice, increases participation and supports the institution’s mission of community engagement.

Your generosity ensures that these collaborative partnerships continue to thrive. Every gift supports initiatives like student-led community projects, service-learning opportunities and research that drives local change and student learning. It empowers students to develop transformative skills while providing communities with the expertise they need to solve complex, localized problems. By supporting the Center for Community Engagement, you’re investing in West Virginia’s future—helping students from all majors gain hands-on experience while making a real difference in communities statewide.
