Family & Community Development

Building Stronger Families, Healthier Communities

West Virginia’s families and communities are the heartbeat of our state. WVU Extension’s Family and Community Development programs provide the knowledge, resources and support needed to help individuals lead healthier lives, strengthen local economies and create thriving communities. From nutrition and wellness to entrepreneurship and financial literacy, we are dedicated to helping West Virginians grow and succeed.

Your Support Makes a Difference

Through programs like the Family Nutrition Program (FNP), we’re helping families make healthier choices, stretch their grocery budgets, and gain essential cooking skills. Initiatives, like Food is Medicine and Kids Market @ The Store, connect individuals to fresh, locally grown produce, reducing food insecurity and preventing chronic disease. Grow This! The West Virginia Garden Challenge and Dining with Diabetes further empower people to take control of their health—because every West Virginian deserves access to the tools for a healthier life.

But our impact goes beyond nutrition. We’re building stronger communities through programs that foster leadership, financial literacy and local development. Whether it’s inspiring youth entrepreneurs, teaching families how to manage their finances or strengthening rural economies through initiatives, like CEOS and MonForest Towns, your support helps turn ideas into action.
