The WVU Health Sciences Center is committed to improving the health and well-being of West Virginians through research and education. The Office of Research and Graduate Education (ORGE) organizes, supports, and funds research and the training of PhD students across the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health. Our researchers are leading the world in developing new interventions to treat neurological diseases, heart and vascular diseases, cancer, and other critical areas. Their research enables WVU hospitals to provide the best possible care to West Virginians. We are also training the next generation of leaders in biomedical, clinical, and public health research, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to address emerging health challenges in West Virginia and beyond.
Your generous contribution – no matter the size – helps us continue this vital work through three Funds. We thank you for your support.
WVU HSC Team Science for Cure (TS4C) Fund (2R448)
The TS4C Fund supports transdisciplinary collaborative research that applies/develops approaches to accelerate the pace of translating research discoveries to better health care. Your contribution will enable and empower researchers and physicians with different expertise to converge on innovative ideas and/or cutting-edge technologies for breakthroughs in areas including:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Health
- Innovative medical device (robotics, medical imaging, etc.) development
- New drug development and drug repurposing
- Innovative clinical trials
WVU HSC Next Generation Researcher Fund (NGRF) (2W710)
The NGRF helps develop the next generation of health researchers at WVU HSC by supporting graduate students pursuing a PhD, the highest postgraduate research degree. Your gift to the NGRF will support PhD students directly in multiple areas, including:
- Awarding scholarships to exceptional students who embody the Mountaineer spirit—those who excel in their academics and research and go above and beyond in leadership, service, and outreach by fostering supportive research environments, inspiring the next generation through STEM outreach in West Virginia schools, and demonstrating that scientific excellence includes lifting others as they climb
- Enhancing students' training experience through national research conference travel, experiential learning opportunities, and innovative educational experiences that prepare them for diverse career pathways in academic research, industry, and beyond
- Providing emergency assistance when life-altering crises occur—such as medical emergencies, house fires, or sudden loss of other critical resources—ensuring that a personal catastrophe doesn't end a promising research career
WVU HSC Iris Allsopp Fund for Research (2R424)
The Iris Allsopp Fund for Research supports groundbreaking research in the Health Science Center that improves the lives of West Virginians. Your contribution will directly support our faculty and students’ cutting-edge studies on diseases or areas including:
- Cancer
- Neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease, Depression, and Substance Use Disorders
- Heart and Vascular Diseases
