The WVU Center for Community Engagement is committed to empowering students, faculty, and community members to collaborate and drive meaningful change across West Virginia. At the heart of this work is the P2A (Place-Based Action) program, which connects academic knowledge with community needs to create lasting impact. Serving the entire university, the Center provides every student, regardless of their major, the opportunity to engage in service-learning activities that tackle real-world issues. By participating in these projects, students gain valuable experience and directly contribute to the growth and sustainability of local communities.
But we can’t achieve this without your support.
The P2A program provides WVU students across all disciplines the unique opportunity to work directly with local communities on critical projects. Whether students are studying engineering, social work, forestry, business, healthcare, or any other field, the P2A program offers hands-on, experiential learning that is essential for their academic growth. These projects tackle a wide range of issues—from economic development and environmental sustainability to improving social services. By addressing place-based challenges, students gain experience while helping communities build resilience, capacity, and sustainability for the future. The Center also collaborates with faculty across the university to create curricula that integrate service-learning into any major, ensuring that students from all disciplines can participate in impactful, community-driven projects.
The Center’s work is further enhanced by the VISTA program, which places AmeriCorps VISTA members in communities to help build sustainable, long-term solutions for local challenges. Through this initiative, the Center helps foster leadership, community-driven change, and economic growth throughout West Virginia.
Additionally, the iServe platform connects students with community service opportunities, allowing them to easily find and participate in meaningful projects that address the needs of local communities. Whether it's working with nonprofits, advancing local education, or supporting healthcare, iServe ensures that students can engage in projects that make a real difference.
