HVI DAY OF GIVING 2026
In West Virginia’s most rural counties, residents live up to 12 years shorter than in counties with better access to care. Heart disease is the leading cause. Our state has the highest prevalence of cardiovascular disease, and rural West Virginians face an even greater risk of heart failure. At the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, we believe geography should not determine how long someone lives or the quality of care they receive.
For this reason, we are expanding world-class cardiac care beyond our academic medical center and into communities across the state. Through telemedicine, our patients in rural hospitals can receive real-time consultations from board-certified heart failure specialists without needing to travel for hours away from home. Remote patient monitoring allows care teams to track symptoms and vital signs daily, helping prevent hospitalizations before they happen.
Your gift on Day of Giving will be directed to the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute Research Fund, which fuels these innovative programs and helps us reach more patients in underserved communities. Together, we can close the gap in rural cardiac care and ensure every West Virginian has access to the life-saving heart care they deserve.
WVU Heart and Vascular Institute Research Fund (2R011): A gift to this fund will help advance scientific discoveries in treating heart and vascular disease, along with improving the lives of West Virginians and patients across the United States.
