The Rack: WVU Student Food Pantry currently serves more than 900 students who are in need of food to sustain themselves through their time at WVU. Over the years, we have seen an increase in the usage of our pantry. This increase in need has led us to expand our services across campus in partnership with other WVU Departments. In the fall of 2021, we opened our first satellite location, the Snack Rack, located in the Campus Recreation Center. This location provides students with snacks and wellness items to keep them energized throughout their day of classes. In January of this year, we opened our second satellite location, the Snack Rack @ Statler, that offers nonperishable foods, drinks, and snacks to students who find themselves on the Evansdale Campus. This location is a smaller version of our main location, allowing students to stock their kitchen with canned vegetables, fruits, and more.
With your support, we can continue to alleviate hunger for all WVU students and foster a healthy and inclusive community by providing access to food and programs. In addition to helping operate the food pantry, our student organization works to host educational events. Students and the greater community can come and learn about food insecurity and how it effects not only students, but everyone who struggles to obtain the nutrients needed to function each day. With our Social Work Placement Student from the WVU School of Social Work, we have provided students with one-on-one coaching sessions to better support them and their immediate needs. Sharing resources, assisting with support applications and more, our pantry does more than just treat the immediate problem of hunger. We want our students to learn how to support themselves outside of higher education, when they graduate and move on to bigger and brighter things.
