Everyone’s story deserves to be told, whether through theatre, printmaking or a musical composition. We help students tell their stories through art, and you can too, by supporting the WVU College of Creative Arts.
Your contribution — of any amount — matters and shapes the lives of our students as they tell their stories in powerful ways.
Why we need your support
We are evolving, and the dynamism of the Creative Arts Center, the Art Museum of WVU and the Joginder Nath Sculpture Garden reflect this. But with these changes come new economic realities.
Your gift provides essential flexibility to help us grow and meet the demands of today’s rapidly changing academic environment. Opportunities for enrichment are constantly presenting themselves — whether it is a study abroad opportunity, a new instrument or music piece to perform, a visiting artist or a particularly special art acquisition. Your support allows us to take advantage of these moments.
As State budget cuts to higher education increase, WVU receives less financial support from the State government. The Legislature has decreased institutional support by more than $38 million over the past four years.
For context, one of our peer institutions, the University of Kentucky, receives nearly $284 million in annual State appropriations. Similarly, Virginia Tech receives over $243 million in annual State appropriations. WVU, on average, receives over $100 million less than our peer institutions.
As State support diminishes, support from donors, alumni and friends grows ever more critical.
How you can help
We encourage gifts to the following funds, but with the ever-increasing need for philanthropic support, a gift to any department or program is deeply appreciated.
- Greatest Needs
This fund assists us with our greatest needs at any time. Gifts to this fund support student travel, special programs and lectures, art exhibits and upgrades in technology.
Your gifts supporting the student scholarship fund allow us to keep costs low for students, many of whom are first-generation college attendees. In addition, scholarship support allows us to aggressively recruit the best and the brightest, while giving others a chance at higher education that they might not have otherwise.
